W H I T E E A G L E C O N F E R E N C E C E N T E R | H A M I L T O N, N Y M A T E R N I T Y P H O T O S E S S I O N I have so much to say about this fun maternity session!! First off, Sydney found me on a local moms FB group. I can't express enough just how appreciative I am to all my clients that have, and continue to, recommend me. Without your word of mouth and support I would not be in business, truly. Secondly, when we were booking this session, Sydney asked if I would mind driving to Hamilton to do it. To the place where she and Justin got married. I had never heard of it before, but I loved the idea... and even more so when I got there! This property is just adorable!! When you pull in, it feels like a trip back in time. The town moved all the old historic buildings onto one property, so it's like walking into an 1800's village. There's a one room schoolhouse, a general store, a covered bridge, a gazebo. Just too many cute things. Not to mention the goats, a miniature horse and a donkey! We had such a great time just walking around and chatting. I love how authentic and real these images turned out. That's because the moments weren't forced at all. That laughter isn't posed. From when little Maisie said she wanted to name the new baby "toothpaste" to when she was playfully wiping off her parents kisses or started splashing in puddles, we just had fun. And it definitely shows. I love working with kids! I love the way they see the world. I'm so excited for this family and their new addition. And I would bet money that little "toothpaste" will be just as "bright and bubbly" as big sister. Ahahaha I had to. <3 To book your own Maternity/Newborn session, contact me HERE. W H Y A R E M Y P R I N T S C U T O F F ? U N D E R S T A N D I N G A S P E C T R A T I O A frequent question I get from my clients, especially right after they receive their prints is, why is some of the image chopped off? Well, there's a simple reason and a few solutions to try and avoid it from happening to you. It's a common misconception that you can print any image to any size you want. The reason this is not always possible is due to something called (buckle up - I'm about to sound all smart and technical) Aspect Ratio. What is Aspect Ratio? While it might sound intimidating, it is a pretty easy concept. So on old 35mm film cameras the aspect ratio was 3:2. That meant any variable of 3:2 would print without loss. Ugh, here we go...dreaded math time! (I promise you, if I can understand this mumbo jumbo, anyone can.) So 3:2 is the same aspect ratio as 6:4. So a 4x6 print, which is a very popular size, would print without any issues. As would an 8x12, a 16x24 and a 20x30. 2 x 3 4 x 6 8 x 12 16 x 24 20 x 30 Do you see how all the numbers on the left are variables of 2 and all the numbers on the right are variables of 3. They are all the same aspect ratio. But another popular size in the print world is an 8x10. However, an 8x10 is a different ratio than 3:2. So you would need to lose 2" somewhere in order to fit into the aspect ratio the image was shot in. Below is an example of an original image and the crop to fit an 8x10 print. So that your final printed image would look something like this. The same is true of other popular sizes like 5x7 and 11x14. "But I don't want to lose any of the image" you say, stomping your foot like a frustrated toddler. Hey, I hear ya! As an artist I crop things in my viewfinder a specific way, while I'm shooting. I want my prints to look the way I shot them for a reason. So what do I do? Well, there are a few options. Either only print in the sizes that coincide with the Aspect Ratio of your camera. Most DSLRs are 3:2, the same as 35mm film was. (Some may be different or may even allow you to choose.) Or for images like the example pic above, you could add more black background prior to cropping. Making the overall image larger, thus maintaining more when you do crop it. I have even done this with wedding party images in the woods by cloning more tree line into the image. Of course, this is not always possible depending on the background. And it really only works on minimal images with solid backdrops. Another option if you are the photographer is to shoot a little wider. Just take a step back or switch lenses in order to get more framing around your subject. Doing this with the expressed purpose of cropping it out later. And lastly, you have the option of just accepting the loss. If you decide to go with this option I do suggest that you do the cropping yourself before sending it off to the printer. A lot of online printers already have an option for this pop up now during checkout. If they do not, however, it is a very easy fix in Photoshop, or even a free online editor like PicMonkey. I hope you have found this helpful.

After many surgeries and being placed on a feeding tube, she was given 1-3 months to live. When I photographed Brandi at 20 months old, she could not walk or talk, but she certainly knew how to communicate. What she conveyed most, was joy! She is such a happy little girl with a charming personality. With no idea of the strength and resilience she possesses. And do I even have to mention those eyes?!! GAH *Melt* I recently contacted Brandi's mother for an update. I am overjoyed to report that she has now outlived that original prognosis by 11 months and has even started to talk!! I am praying she will continue to fight this disease and surpass all the Doctor's expectations. Here is a portion of Brandi's Gold Hope Project photo session. I was just thinking today... Our lives are filled with so many moments. We live each of them and they pass so swiftly. How many events happen where we can recall the exact moment in time? On this day, at exactly 10:41 am one decade ago we held her in our arms for the very first time. We had no idea yet, of her thoughtful ways and her kind heart. But in that moment, and every one since, she has been loved beyond measure. Unique.Funny.Creative.Good-hearted.Sweet. Magnolia. >>> <<<
Bellamy Harbor Park and Train Station Elopement | Rome, NY Erika and Todd had a simple courthouse ceremony before meeting up with me at the train station in Rome, NY. The architecture was so beautiful. We did about a half hour session. Then we literally drove around the corner for a sunset session outside at Bellamy Harbor Park. I had planned for golden hour images and the light did not disappoint!! It was so dreamy by the time we got there. The water and the snow were both glittery and it was chilly, but not frigid. The perfect settings for such a lovely couple. And here is their sneak peek... We go to Cape Cod every year!
This will be the first year we miss because I'm shooting a wedding in Connecticut around the time we usually go. And we are FINALLY going to Disney World!!! We just couldn't swing two vacations, but we aren't even mad about it. (Because DISNEY WORLD!!) With all that said, I decided it was probably time to blog last year's Cape Cod trip. I still have loads to edit because when you're a photographer you spend all your time working on other people's images instead of your own. Finny was only about 7 months at the time and I was a little nervous about how he would do. Well, he was fantastic! He slept like a champ every night. And we did our best to wear him out every day. It was his first time touching the ocean. Both kids first trip to Edaville. My husband and daughter's first time climbing and ziplining through the trees. (Highly recommended btw) And our very first vacation as a family of four. We made memories that will last forever. And here's just a snippet of proof... I mean, a lot of parents have referred to me as the baby whisperer before. So flattering. I'm going to be honest though, none of my skills were needed for this little sweetheart. She was perfect from the very start. She was sleeping before her session even began and stayed that way the whole time. And she even gave me a few smiles. Just a complete doll, and her parents were so sweet and loving. I know this girl is going places in life! Here is Kinley's (LOVE the name) sneak peek... Engagement Session | Watkins Glen State Park I was contacted by this lovely couple in late fall,
but there was still some beautiful color on some of the trees! We shot their engagement session in Watkins Glen State Park. It is one of my absolute favorite places, especially in the fall. Add in a genuine and loving couple and it's pure gold! Enjoy! Some couples are just plain cute! Hannah and Tim are that couple. One of the most special moments of their day was during their first look. Hannah had me hand Tim a letter to read before he saw her for the first time in her beautiful dress. It was a letter she had written before she met him. A letter for her future husband. I have no idea what it said, but how sweet and thoughtful is that? It's touching moments like that, that make me believe so much in these two! Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Szajer! May your love last for eternity. Here's your sneak peek... First Look. Ceremony. Wedding Dress :: New York Bride & Co. Tuxedo :: Boscovs Bridal Party Attire :: Azazie Wedding Rings :: Etsy Florist :: Candi O'Connor Hair & Make-Up :: Belinda Cornell & the Bride I love meeting new families. The Siechens are so much fun. We had an absolutely beautiful day at Green Lakes State Park. Full sun is usually a photographer's nightmare, but I like to use the harsh shadows to create visual interest. Here is their sneak peek... Talk about a picture perfect family!! I mean, how gorgeous are these people?! Mom wanted fall images, I'm so glad the leaves still had a little color on them. I love this time of year so much. Howe family, here is your sneak peek... I hope you love them. These gorgeous humans have been with me for years! Let me tell you what I love about the Montroys. A lot of times during a family session, the parents, usually the mom, insists that the children "behave". And I get it. They are paying for these images. They want something nice. (I'm not knocking it btw because I'm the same way during my family photos.) The wonderful thing about Brittany though is how laid back she is. She doesn't force anything. She lets me direct the kids. And best of all, after we get a few posed shots, she allows me to set them loose. She lets me capture them EXACTLY as they are. They don't need perfect poses and perfect hair. They laugh, they jump, they run, they fall down. And you know something? Her images are always PERFECTION! They are real and fun and true memories of who their family was at this precise moment in time. All I can say is that I adore you, Montroy family!! You make my job so enjoyable and fulfilling. As always, I hope you love your images. Here is your sneak peek... Little Lucas' Mama said that if I could get him to sleep, I wasn't allowed to leave. LOL Well, I did indeed get him to sleep and she even let me go home after. But let's face it, with a face like that who needs sleep?! Here's this sweet pumpkin's (cause it's fall, haha) sneak peek... Stephanie & Jim's Engagement Session Sneak Peek | Oneida Shores State Park | Brewerton, NY9/26/2018 Engagement Session | Oneida Shores | Brewerton, NY The best descriptor I can think of for Stephanie and Jim is ADORABLE. They are just ridiculously cute together. They are playful and fun. I just know they are going to have a beautiful marriage! I hadn't shot out at Oneida Shores in years. It is still just as lovely as I remember. To top it off, we had the perfect overcast evening, that ended in an incredible fiery sunset. Insert heart eyes emoji here!! I hope you love these images as much as I do. Here's a sneak peek... To book your own couples/engagement session, contact me HERE. All engagement session pricing, can be found HERE. >>> <<<
I'm kind of obsessed with the art park in Cazenovia! I think it is the PERFECT setting for a senior session. Thankfully, Saidee thought so, too. I love that she wanted something unique and fun! I adore the way they came out. Here is just a small look at Saidee's dreamy Senior session... Sarah & John are the third couple from out of state to hire me sight unseen just based on my posted work online. It's such an incredible compliment! And I didn't even have to win them over with my winning personality, lol. These two are just ridiculously gorgeous. Every detail of their wedding day was simply breathtaking! I think these images are some of my best work yet. Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Kirn!! I'm so excited to share this sneak peek with you... Getting Ready. Ceremony. Family Formals. Bridal Party Formals.
