Charlie is dying. That is probably the saddest sentence I have ever typed. Charlie has a terminal brain tumor called DIPG. But that's not who Charlie is. Charlie is warm and funny. He's a son, a brother and a boyfriend. He loves to make silly faces and he's super artistic! He loves his dogs and he is surrounded by love. He is an optimist and he is inspiring. Charlie is living. That is probably the truest sentence I have ever typed. I feel honored just knowing this amazing human. I hope I was able to capture even a fraction of who he truly is. In the words of Charlie..."stop and smell the roses, because you never know, tomorrow those roses might be gone forever." DIPG or Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma,
like all childhood cancers, is grossly underfunded. Only 4% of all cancer research funds goes toward childhood cancer as a whole, with just 1% of that going towards DIPG. Adult cancer research gets 96% of the funds simply because it's a money maker for the medical industry. If you would like to contribute towards childhood cancer research, please do your due diligence to find a reputable organization. There are many fraudulent websites out there using sick children to scam people out of money. To help you get started, here are a couple great organizations you can support.
